Full Time Utility Clerk
The employee works under the direction of the City Clerk. This position performs customer service and a variety of account-keeping and clerical work which mostly involves the processing of utility service requests, payments and billings; and serves as the receptionist for the city office. This person is expected to attend educational and certification courses.
Office hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Employee must reside within 20 minutes drive time to Lyndon.
*Starting Salary will be $15.00.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Computer literate and experience required in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Prefer some experience with website and social media
- Ability to interact positively with the public in person and by phone
- Ability to operate office equipment (computer, copier, fax, scanner)
- Good organizational skills, punctual
- Self-starter and team member
- Ability to walk or drive to distribute information
- Payment data entry and 10-key calculator skills required
- Some accounting experience preferred
- Accuracy and attention to detail
Primary Responsibilities
- Tracks account information including billing and payments for utility accounts;
- Yearly sewer averaging;
- Prepares meter information for Maintenance to read water meters on a monthly basis;
- Balances Cash, prepares daily reports, updates utility accounts indicating payments, repairs or other pertinent information to keep accounts current;
- Answers and directs incoming phone calls;
- Registers peddlers and vendors;
- Collects payments for all other permits; fees and fines issued by the City;
- Performs billing and processes receipts for miscellaneous services;
- Works closely with the Maintenance department and City Clerk regarding utility problems or emergencies;
- Assist with website and Facebook updates;
- Daily mail and bank errands;
- Reservations and inspection of the Community Center;
Secondary Responsibilities
- Assist with other tasks as assigned.
