Mission Statement

The mission of the City of Lyndon Public Works Department is to provide reliable, safe, and cost-effective public infrastructure services that protect public health, enhance quality of life, and support the daily needs of residents, businesses, and visitors. The department is committed to maintaining essential systems with professionalism, efficiency, and accountability while serving the community with integrity and pride.



Department Overview

The City of Lyndon Public Works Department operates from 7 - 4 M-F and is responsible for the management, operation, maintenance, and improvement of the City’s public infrastructure systems. The department consists of a Public Works Director, an  and 3 full-time crew members who collectively support the City’s core services.



Department Responsibilities

The Public Works Department’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas:


Water Distribution System

  • Operation, maintenance, and repair of the municipal water distribution system
  • Monitoring water quality and system integrity
  • Maintenance of water mains, valves, hydrants, and service connections
  • Compliance with state and federal drinking water regulations


Wastewater (Sewer) System

  • Operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer collection system
  • Cleaning, inspection, and repair of sewer mains and manholes
  • Coordination of repairs and response to sewer backups or emergencies
  • Compliance with state and federal wastewater regulations


Streets and Transportation Infrastructure

  • Maintenance and repair of city streets, alleys, curbs, and assigned sidewalks
  • Street patching, grading, and surface maintenance
  • Installation and maintenance of traffic control signs, pavement markings, and school zone safety devices
  • Snow and ice control operations

Stormwater and Drainage Systems

  • Maintenance of storm sewers, culverts, ditches, and drainage structures
  • Flood mitigation and stormwater management activities
  • Inspection and repair of drainage infrastructure to prevent property damage and roadway hazards


Parks and Public Grounds

  • Maintenance of city parks, playgrounds, ball fields, and green spaces
  • Upkeep of park amenities, landscaping, and public right-of-way areas
  • Support for community events held in city parks or streets


City Facilities and Grounds

  • Maintenance and repair of city-owned buildings and facilities
  • Groundskeeping and exterior maintenance of municipal properties


General Operations and Support

  • Emergency response support during utility failures, severe weather, and other public safety incidents
  • Coordination with other city departments, contractors, and utility providers
  • Equipment operation, maintenance, and safety compliance
  • Customer service response to citizen service requests and concerns
